What are West Jersey-Memorial Family Practice Residency
Academic affiliations?
The West Jersey-Memorial Family Practice Residency participates in the Network of Affiliated Family Practice Residencies of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Department of Family Practice. Through this affiliation, faculty and residents are offered unique educational experiences such as bi-annual faculty development lectures and the AAFP ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics) course for all PGY1 residents. Additionally, the Department provides resources for resident and faculty research both within and between programs. All these activities are facilitated through regularly scheduled resident meetings and lectures which the programs jointly support.
What are the candidate eligibility requirements?
All applicants must meet the following criteria for a PGY1 position:
- ECFMG certified
- Permant Resident or Green Card Holder; Visa's are not sponsored.
- Graduate of an LCME approved school
- The date of medical school graduation cannot exceed 5 years prior to the academic year you would be starting the program.
All applicants interested in a PGY2 position must have the following:
- Deans Letter from Medical School
- Letter from current residency director
- Transcript from medical school
- Current Letter of reference x2
What is ERAS?
ERAS is a service that transmits residency, fellowship and osteopathic internship applications, letters of recommendations, MSPEs/Dean's Letters, medical school transcripts, USMLE transcripts, COMLEX transcripts, and other supporting credentials from you and your designated Dean's Office to program directors using the Internet.
How do I apply?
All applications for a PGY1 position must come through ERAS. Our program is a participant in The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Those interested in PGY2 positions should call the residency directly at 856-795-7075 for availability.

What does the interview day look like?
- Interviews are conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays.
- 9:30am - Program Director and applicant "Meet & Greet" group breakfast.
- 10:30am - Group interviews with faculty.
- 11:00am - Group interviews with current residents.
- 11:45am to 1:30pm - A wonderful lunch out - current residents and candidates!
- 1:30 to 1:45pm - Opportunity to Meet with the VP of Physician Relations.
- 1:45 to 2:00pm - Wrap up and final questions with the Program Director.
- After 2:00pm, candidates have the opportunity to go home. If candidates would like to stay and see more of the family practice facilities, Virtua hospitals, Health Fitness Center, Child Care Center, or local community we will gladly arrange the opportunity to see as much as you would like on your visit!
What should I do to prepare for my interview?
- Please ensure that all documentation is uploaded to ERAS (i.e. 3 letters of recommendation, Deans Letter, Medical School Transcripts, USMLE Scores, CAF, Personal Statement, ECFMG certificate, CV, etc.)
- Please visit the residency webpage and take a tour of both family practice offices. Tours are not conducted during the interview visit.
- While visiting the residency website, please take the time to visit the faculty & resident page where you can get details on each of our faculty members - you may have similiar clinical interests! If so, contact the residency and we'll do our best to make sure that you have the opportunity to meet when you visit.
- Contact the residency program to make the appropriate hotel arrangements that are necessary if you require accomodations during your visit.
- Call or email the program with any specific preferences you have for the day of your visit (i.e. additional tours, opportunity to meet a specific faculty member who shares your clinical interests, etc.).
What should I do the day of my interview?
- Interviews begin promptly at 9:30am, so plan to arrive 15 minutes early. You will be provided the location and address at the time you book your interivew.
- Light Breakfast will be provided.
- You do not need to wear a suit on the day of your interview unless you would like to. We like to call our dress attire, "Upscale Business Casual," suggesting that you dress nicely but not formally. Khaki pants, dress pants, collared shirts, nice sweaters, dresses, etc. will all work nicely. Please dress professionally yet comfortably. We want the focus of the morning to be about getting to know YOU! Please use common sense - Jeans, sneakers, shorts, sandals, t-shirts, provocative clothing, tank-tops, and athletic-wear are NOT appropriate.
Are walk-ins welcome on the day of interview?
Walk-ins will NOT be interviewed. The residency program requires that documents be submitted in full through ERAS. Careful consideration is applied to each candidates documentation packet prior to their invitation and arrival for their interview. If you are interested in the program, please take the proper steps to apply through ERAS as this will be the only way that your candidacy will be considered.
