Serve as a “Bridge to the Future” in family medicine, by providing outstanding clinical training to all residents that results in high quality care to patients in the community.

Mission:
West Jersey-Memorial Family Practice Residency at Virtua will cultivate physicians who, with the patient, stand at the core of lifelong health by integrating the physical, emotional and family needs of patients. Furthermore, these physicians will be dedicated to cultivating evidence based long term learning and application to healthcare and to the education of their patients.

West Jersey-Memorial Family Practice Residency Academic Affiliation

The West Jersey-Memorial Family Practice Residency participates in the Network of Affiliated Family Practice Residencies of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Department of Family Practice. Through this affiliation, faculty and residents are offered unique educational experiences such as bi-annual faculty development lectures, AAFP ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics) course, a "Professionalism in Medicine" seminar for all PGY1 residents, career seminar for PGY-2's, and practice management seminar for PGY-3's. Additionally, the Department annual Grand Rounds features a noted speaker addressing issues of importance to our specialty.

ACGME Accrediation

The West Jersey-Memorial Family Practice Residency is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Professional goals for graduates:

Core knowledge of primary care
Application and understanding of the biopsychosocial model of care
Experience and competency in provision of continuity of care in the hospital (including ICU), nursing home, and home setting
Basic level of competency in mental health diagnoses
Experience in provision of comprehensive care including prevention, regardless of socioeconomic or insurance status of patient and utilizing community resources
Effective communication skills with patients, staff, and peers
Competency in the business of medicine
Training in providing fiscally responsible care that is evidence based
Ability to learn lifelong
Basic computer applications skills
Ability to deal with and identify personal and professional limits and referral need
Understanding of how to function as patient advocate

New Innovations 2007!

West Jersey - Memorial Family Practice Residency at Virtua goes live with

As of July 1st, 2007, our family practice residency has fully integrated the use of New Inovations, Inc. into all areas of the program. This wonderful tool allows the faculty, residents, outside attendings, and staff to communicate with one another, and successfully streamlines the many components that go into a successful residency program. Scheduling, procedural logging, the completion of evaluations, conference details, duty hours, and many other pertinent information are housed on the New Innovations, Inc. site. Virtua Health and GE Healthcare Form a Strategic Alliance to Deliver New Generation of Healthcare

In early 2004, Virtua Health announced an alliance with GE Healthcare, a global leader in medical imaging, point-of-care systems, healthcare services and information technology.

A focus on patients

The arrangement will enable Virtua to leverage the resources and strength of GE in order to attain its vision for patient-focused healthcare delivery. It enables GE to create a template for successful change in healthcare that it can take to the marketplace. The alliance creates a reciprocal learning lab for both organizations.

Virtua has already adopted GE's Six Sigma approach to problem solving and performance improvement, creating a firm foundation for further collaboration. The expanded relationship is driven by a mutual desire to improve the delivery of patient services and transform the healthcare model. Specifically, it will encompass collaboration in strategic business development, technology optimization, leadership development, and clinical and operational excellence.

Two regional medical centers

A transformation of Virtua's facilities will also play a role in this initiative, eventually transforming four hospitals into two regional medical centers located in Mt. Holly and Voorhees. A new completely digital hospital will be constructed on Route 73 in Voorhees. In addition to a hospital, the campus may also include medical office buildings, outpatient services, a regional conference center and amenities such as hotels, restaurants, banks and daycare centers. Virtua will look to developers and investors to bring these services to the 100-acre campus.
